The Israeli army said on Monday it ordered the evacuation of several neighborhoods and towns near Gaza City and warned of imminent fighting after rockets were fired from the area.
Army spokesman Avichai Adlai posted a map on a social media platform.
Israel has issued multiple evacuation orders during its war with ruler Hamas.
The evacuation orders cover most of the Strip, including areas where the army had previously said most Palestinian militants had been cleared, according to the UN.
Adlai said Palestinian fighters would “fire rockets again into the State of Israel” from northwest, which was the focus of Israeli military operations in the early stages of the war.
Earlier on Monday, a Palestinian wing of Islamic Jihad, a group that fights alongside Hamas in the Strip, claimed responsibility for the rocket attacks on southern Israel. The army said late Sunday that it had “detected two projectiles entering Israeli territory from northern Gaza,” one of which was intercepted and the other fell into the sea.
According to the UN, the vast majority of Gaza’s 2.4 million residents have been displaced at least once during the more than 11 months of war.
Previous evacuation orders have led people to leave entire neighborhoods and cities with everything they can carry.
According to the Ministry of Health in the Hamas-controlled area, at least 40,972 people have been killed in Israeli military attacks in the Strip.
The UN Human Rights Office said most of the dead were women and children.
