UK welcomes interim government in Bangladesh. The people of Bangladesh deserve accountability and a peaceful transition to democracy
The United Kingdom welcomes the appointment of the interim government in Bangladesh, led by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.
The interim government has the UK’s support as it works to restore peace and order, for the sake of the Bangladeshi people, foreign secretary David Lammy said.
“We urge all actors to prevent further violence and loss of life. The people of Bangladesh deserve accountability and a peaceful pathway to an inclusive democratic future,” he said.
Prof Yunus was sworn in on Thursday along with 13 other advisors following the resignation of prime minister Sheikh Hasina on August 5 amidst protests.
