Ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra told AFP the dead included 10 people killed in al-Maghazi in central Gaza, nine in Rafah in the south and five in City in the north, following the expiration of the truce at 7am local time (0500 GMT).

Israel announced a resumption of combat in Gaza carrying out a series of airstrikes across the territory, as the truce expired with no agreement to extend it.

The truce had paused fighting that began on October 7 when Hamas broke through militarized border into Israel.

Israel vowed to eliminate Hamas in response and unleashed an air and ground military campaign in that the Hamas government says has killed more than 15,000 people, mostly civilians.
